Broth Herb Packs Loose Leaf
/
DESCRIPTION
Winter is the PERFECT time for concocting soups! And every soup starts with a delicious broth. Whether that broth is vegetable-based or an immune-boosting bone broth, the addition of medicinal herbs, mushrooms and seaweeds should always be welcomed!
Bone broth is packed with essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and silicon, along with amino acids, trace minerals, chondroitin, and glucosamine. It's also rich in gelatin, which can benefit a variety of conditions including peptic ulcers, diabetes, muscle diseases, infectious diseases, jaundice, and cancer. This nutritious broth supports gut health and its fat content, high in vitamin D, is excellent for sautéing vegetables. To promote gut healing, consider drinking a pint to a quart of bone broth daily, either hot like tea or mixed into foods. Find our favorite recipe below!
SUGGESTED USE
Add the Broth Herb Pack into any broth or stock and let simmer and steep for at least 4 hours with the lid on.
Here is our favorite bone broth recipe that features our Broth Herb Packs.
BONE BROTH RECIPE:
- Use ~2lbs organic or grass-fed bones from beef, poultry, or wild game, enough to fill half of your pot.
- For a richer, more savory flavor, roast the bones under the broiler first.
- Add enough spring water to cover your vegetables and bones, about a gallon.
- Mix in 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to help extract the calcium.
- Add 1-2 chopped onions, 3-6 chopped carrots, and 3-6 celery ribs.
- You can also add any other vegetables you like—kale, garlic, broccoli, spinach, etc.
- Add the Broth Herb Pack for an enriched flavor and nutrient boost.
- Place everything into a pot of water and bring it to a slow boil, then reduce to a simmer. Alternatively, you can use a pressure cooker (such as an Instant Pot) on high for 4-6 hours, and your broth will be ready.
- Allow it to simmer slowly for 8-48 hours, turning off the heat overnight if desired.
- Add more water when needed. Afterwards strain the broth from herbs, vegetables, and bones.
- Pour the broth into glass jars and store them in the fridge for up to a week. When freezing the broth, always leave room for the liquid to expand.
- Thaw in the fridge and use it for cooking rice, vegetables, soups, sauces, chilis, or roasts. Substitute broth for water in any recipe that requires a liquid ingredient.
- For a warming drink, add miso and enjoy hot like tea.
